John Hugh's Story
John Morgans signed upto the Rifle Brigade in 1916 after the death of his brother Alfred. John was severely wounded in the groin by a dum dum bullet during the Battle of Vimy Ridge in 1917 . John and a small group of his comrades were on night patrol when they confronted some Prussian Guards. Most were killed and left for dead, but John managed to get back to the British lines. Returning to " Blighty" for a series of operations eventually gangrene set in to his foot ,which had to be amputated and a false wooden foot and part of the leg was fitted at Roehampton. John was a gentle man who like most only spoke of his war experiences when he had had a small tipple at Christmas .He was of average height with a cheeky smile.Had a tattoo done in the army ( most out of character)
