William's Story
Today we remember Gunner William Britton of the Royal Horse Artillery who died on the 19th October 1917, aged 27, from injuries recieved whist serving in France. Gunner Britton joined the Army in 1907, having previously been an appentice joiner in Lennox Mill.He served before the War in India and was drafted to France on the outbreak of War.He was wounded in January 1915 and, on recovery, was drafted Gallipoli where he was once again seriously wounded and returned to hospital in England. Gunner Britton never recovered from his wounds and died in hospital in Glasgow in May 1917. Gunner Britton is buried in Campsie Cemetery and is there rememberd with honour.
