Thomas Henry's Story
Thomas Henry Ricketts was my maternal grandfather. He was in the trenches in the Great War. I believe he was a sergeant in the Royal Warwickshires. My mother was 10 years old when he returned and her younger brother didn't remember him. He was crippled with arthitis brought on by being up to his armpits in water for weeks on end in the trenches and he said that many mornings he awoke to find that the man next to him had died in the night. He remembered his experiences all of his life but would talk about them very rarely.
