Arthur's Story

Arthur Smith was the middle son of Joseph and Mary Smith who lived at 105 Eaton Road West Derby Liverpool. His elder brother Joe had enlisted first and Arthur joined up 'to look after Joe'. Joe came home from the war but Arthur died in the Battle of the Somme 30 July 1916. He is buried in the war grave cemetery at Guillemont Road, near Albert in France. All the family are extremely proud of Arthur and want his name to be remembered as one of the young men 'who gave their tomorrow for our toda'.
