Harry's Story

he was taken prisoner at St Quentin, and held in captivity until 1919

Two months after joining in March 1917 he was sent to the Western Front, where he saw severe fighting in various sectors. After taking part in the Battle of Ypres and minor engagements, he was taken prisoner at St Quentin, and held in captivity until 1919. He was demobilised in March of that year, and holds the General Service and Victory medals. Harry Ward was my grandfather. He rarely spoke about the war.
