Smith's Story

Awarded the Military Medal for bravery when he volunteered to search for the enemy in a German gun emplacement which was holding up his company's advance. Afterwards he is said to have remarked lightheartedly that he only volunteered because he knew that there would be no dinner until someone checked it out!
