George's Story
George served with the Manchester Pals (Vitilliers?) from the start of the war in 1914.
George fought at Gallipoli and on the Western Front. He was wounded 3 times, patched up & sent back to war. His first wound was at Gallipoli, in the leg I believe. His second wound was a bullet that lodged in his skull. It must have been a nearly spent one because it did not penetrate his skull and surgeons were able to remove it. He kept the bullet all his life in a special box! His third and most serious wound was shrapnel in the back of his neck which was lodged so close to his spinal cord they couldn't remove it and he had it there for the rest of his life.
