Learo Aylmer Henry's Story
Eldest son of Edward Augustus & Emilie Hackett of Castle Armstrong, Ballycumber, Co Offaly, Ireland. Served with the Royal Munster Fusiliers and was a Captain, 10th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles.
Served with distinction in Battles of Messenes, Ypres (3rd), Cambrai, St Quintin-Amiens 1918. Supplement to the London Gazette, 17 Sept 1917: Award of Military Cross: "For conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty in commanding his company during an attack. In conjunction with another company he knocked out an enemy strong point, capturing 30 officers & 70 other ranks, also 5 machine guns. Throughout the day he set a splendid example of leadership."
Killed in action at Ypres 24 April 1918, interred at Minty Farm Cemetery, Langemark, Belgium.
