Archie was born in Stoke Newington, N. London in 1898. He lived with his parents and 4 brothers and 1 sister at 41, Hill St & 17, Sandy Hill, Woolwich , SE London, before moving to Stapleford Abbotts Essex where he lived at 2, Towneley Cottages before enlistment into the 8th Batt' Somerset Light Inf'. He was clever, was educated by scholarships and wanted to be an Army Chaplain. He was killed by his own artillery (short shelling) on 9th Oct' 1918 when advancing on the village of Haucourt-en Cambresis during the Battle of Cambrai, 8th-9th Oct 1918. (Battles of the Hindenberg Line). When the advance began at 5-30am after divisional bombardment, the village was found to be unoccupied. Archie's body was never recovered and he is remembered on panel 4 of the Vis-en-Artois British Cemetery 12 Kilometres SE of Arras France.
