William's Story

He enlisted in February 1915 and was posted with the BEF in November of that year. He was killed on the 26th March 1916 on the Ypres Salient. Sadly just six months later his younger brother James was killed. James had fought as Loos and was transferred to The Loyal North Lancashires for the Somme offensive. Shell shocked, James was shot at dawn on September 12th 1916 for 'Cowardice'

William was the fourth child of eight and the eldest son. My Grandfather.

Two brothers who grew up together and worked together in the same job, lost their lives in the same bloody war. May their souls rest in peace.
