George's Story
2nd Battalion of the Suffolk Regiment had crossed the Belgian border on 22nd August 1914 and advanced as far as Mons-Conde Canal. On this day the first shots of the Great War were fired.The British were pushed back which in history became known as The Retreat from Mons. George Stevens was my great uncle. Killed in action on 26 August 1914 fighting at Le Cateau.
