Soldier Record

Born in Wimbledon, Surrey in 1894, to Charles and Hannah Edmonds. After his father's death, he went into a home and later was a footman in Marylebone before enlisting in 1915. That took him to France where he was reported missing in action on 13th August 1916. He is thought to have died of severe gun shot wounds to his left thigh, having had his left leg amputated at the Reserve Hospital, Munster, Germany, on 25th October 1916. He was reburied at Cologne Southern Cemetery. His mother died earlier in 1916 so would not have been aware of his death and his medals were kept and given to his brother Charles, a sailor in the Navy, who survived the war. Although I would find it very sad, one day I would like to visit his grave.
