Kenneth Sutherland's Story
I have no relationship to Kenneth Rudd, but as a young girl, I knew his sister, then an elderly lady who lived in the same village. She kept a photograph of him on her mantlepiece and his name is at the top of the war memorial in the village church. Since then I have done a little research on him and know that he probably enlisted when a student in Cambridge. His father was a Vicar, in Oxfordshire and died early in the war, when his mother returned to her home in Herefordshire, with his sister. He had family connections to Yorkshire, which is probably why he joined a Yorkshire regiment, as a Lieutenant in July 1915. He was promoted to Captain, and was killed in action in October 1918, he is buried in the cemetery at Caudry, Northern France.
