John Lewis's Story

John Lewis Higgins was the son of Sarah Ann Higgins (Nee Lewis) and Walter John Higgins of North Crawley, Bucks. He was the eldest son and had 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Joining the Middlesex Regiment, he entered the theatre of war on 3rd December 1914, France. Soon after. he was to join the Machine Gun Corps, promoted to Sergeant, and was awarded the Military Medal some time around April 1918. He carried on in the MGC as Sergeant Instuctor until 7th September 1925 when on his way home on leave he had a fatal motorcycle accident. He was taken to Tidworth Military Hospital, but died soon after. He left a wife, Elsie May Higgins.
