Fred's Story
My Grandad fought in the war, he died when I was only ten, and my dad said he never mentioned the war. I think it was to horrible to talk about.
There are so many things I would have loved to talk to him about, so many questions. I'm so proud of him.
My only memory of him is ,that he always greeted me with a hug and a kiss from his armchair { he had sharp whiskers and no teeth} this sticks in my mind.
I love him for what he did for our family, and his country.

Fred Crabbe was in the Royal Enginners, and was a driver of a ammunition's truck. He joined on the 22nd May 1915. He was awarded the Victory, British and 15 star medal. The 15 star was awarded for service in Russia.
