Stanley Harold's Story

Stanley was serving with 1st Field Squadron Royal Engineers supporting 1st Cavalry Division. On 24 May 1915 he was reported as KIA. Probably during the Battle of Bellewaarde, part of the Second Battle of Ypres. The Cavalry Divisions sustained intense artillery and gas bombardment throughout that day. As his body was never found and there are no war diaries for the unit, it is surmised that they were completely obliterated. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial.
