David's Story
He was awarded the Mons Star following the "contemptable little army's" stiff resistance at Mons in 1914.
My maternal grandfather, 7181 Sergeant D McQuiston, DCM, Royal Engineers, was one of the few pre-World War I regulars who survived the whole war. He joined the regular Army on 1 December 1900 and served until 30 November 1921 and was awarded the Mons Star following the "contemptable little army's" stiff resistance at Mons in 1914. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (gazetted) on 11 March 1916, for action in taking command of his company after all the officers and SNCOs had been killed or wounded during the Battle of Loos.
