Samuel's Story

My Great Uncle Sam Owen was a Corporal in the Royal Welch Fusiliers 9th Battalion.

He was killed on the 7th June 1917 at the Battle of Messines.

His war grave is at Croonaert Chapel Cemetery near Ypres, a very quiet and peaceful cemetery in the middle of nowhere.

His sister, my grandmother was very proud of him and I am fortunate to have in my possession some very moving letters he wrote to her from The Front.
