Frederick's Story
Pte Frederick Watson (service No 2253) was born on the 26th Sept 1895 at Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne.
He died on 'The Western Front' near Ypres on the 31st July 1915 as the result of wounds received in action.
He was awarded three medals: The 15 Star, The British War Medal and The Victory Medal.
At the outbreak of war he answered the call to arms immediately, and joined the Northumberland Fusiliers
1st / 5th Bn (Territorial) at Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne in Aug 1914.
His battalion arrived in France on 17th April 1915 (date from Frederick's Medal Card) and was heavily involved in the Ypres offensives.
When he died, Frederick had survived just over three months at the front. He was unmarried.
There are no surviving photographs of him that I am aware.
He is remembered with honour and rests at Bailleul Communal Cemetery in France.
