George's Story
I have no memories of Uncle George. He died on 3/10/1918 at the Battle of San Quentin Canal. He had only been in France for 2 weeks. The story told by his friend is that they were travelling in lorries; Uncle George was in the lorry in front of his friend. The lorry received a direct hit and his body was never found. Apparently his mother refused to accept that he was dead and spent the next year travelling around various hospitals looking for him.
George Bennett 1895 - 1918
It has only been recently that we have found his memorial in the grave yard at Vis- En- Artois.
