Charles's Story

In 1914, at the age of 15yrs, Charles Lakin went to Leicester to enlist with the Royal Leicestershire Reg. as he was too young to be accepted in Stafford.

He was taken as a POW in France. escaped 3 times, only to be recaptured & spend the rest of the war as a POW.

In 1939, he rejoined his regiment but was discharged due to ill health, after 3yrs & 42 days.

He was run over by a drunken driver in 1970 & died two years later.
