Ernest Alfred's Story

My Great Granddad, Died in the Battle of Somme 30th September 1916. He enlisted at Catterick No 33260 and served with B&C Company The Green Howards. He lost his life at the Stout Redoubt.

This was due to either shelling in the early morning or late afternoon bombing attack. At one point in the battle, B&C Companies were merged with the 9th West Yorkshire to form a composite Battalion to hold the Section.

He fell with 15 Officers & 381 other ranks, kileed wounded or missing.

My dad served with the Para Squadron RAC 15/19 Kings Royal Hussars.

I am currently serving in the RAF.
