James's Story

Sadly, there are no photos of James and he has no known grave, but he is remembered on the the wall of the Tyne Cot Memorial.

James Ashton, of the Machine Gun Corp, number 87868, was killed on 22 August 1917. He was only 19 years of age. Sadly, there are no photos of James and he has no known grave, but he is remembered on the the wall of the Tyne Cot Memorial. He was the son of Joseph and Sophia Ashton of London Fields, Hackney. He was my grandfather's uncle. My grandfather was only three when James was killed, so did not get to know him, but he knew of him.
