Tom's Story

Thomas was not called up to go into the army straight away the first world war 1914 - 1918 because of his commitments to his family, but eventually he got his papers to go , he joined the Border Regiment as a Private, but he was soon made a Corporal. He served in France and he used to write lovely letters, his writing was perfect. Also Thomas sent embroidered cards. I still have one put away. He was the most wonderful Brother anyone could have. Thomas had a girlfried named Bessie, but he died of wounds in May 1917, so he did not come back to marry his Bessie. (Mary Andrews - sister)
