william Leckie's Story
my father joined the lovat scouts in 1915. was transferred
to the camerons later, after that he joined the 5th gordons.
he took part in at least six battles including the somme and
pachendale. although he never talked about them I found out
after he died in 1968. He had a souvineer brouchure of the unveiling of the memorial to the 51st division at newfoundland
park which he attended, the unveiling was done by marichal
foche. Inthe brochure all the battles of the war were printed
and my dad underlined six of them in red ink.....Itook that to be the ones in which he took part. He was wounded in 1917 and
had his right leg amputated, he spent quite a long time in
edmonton military hospital.In ww2 he was a head warden in
the ARP. After the war he was made a Justice of the peace........
