Ernest's Story

He died in a sanatorium because his lungs had been so badly affected by gas from the war.

My grandad died before I was born. He left four children: my mum was the eldest. He died in a sanatorium because his lungs had been so badly affected by gas from the war. He had four brothers and they all went to war. Uncle Shirley died and uncle Hubert was injured. They served with the Royal Leicester regiment. Grandad was a stonemason/quarryman and the dust just added to his condition.
