Walter's Story
Remember my Grandfather talking in the 1940's about this brother Gunner in 42 Battalion MGC and also Albert Sherwood Foresters another brother who were killed in France during World War 1. My Grandad was also on the Somme with the Sherwood Foresters, we were told by my father that he was captured imprisoned in Hamelin Weser, escaped from the prison, on the run for about three weeks not knowing that the Armistice had been signed and he was free.
My Great Grandma had five sons who went to war the three above plus Harry the eldesson who was also in the Sherwood Foresters and her youngest son Sydney who was in the Navy was at the battle of Jutland and survived being torpedoed and able to come home to finish the rest of his life.
