Charles's Story
I am writing this on behalf of my father who died in 1978. His brother Charles Parker died at the Somme aged 31 my dad would have been 8 years old at the time. The youngest of 17, his own father had been killed in an accident in 1910. He had other brothers who were fighting. On the day the news broke that the war was over he went to Temple Meads station to await his brothers return. It was months later before they came home. Charles never was to come home.
