Bob Wear was a Lance Sergeant no 21/565 in the 21st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (2nd Tyneside Scottish), and was one of a number of miners from Blyth in Northumberland who signed up together in 1914. He was fatally injured during the first day of the battle of the Somme near the village of la Boisselle, and died in Boulogne on 9th July 1916. He was awarded the Military Medal and was 26 when he died.
