Horace Bertie Montgomery's Story
My Grandad, Horace fought at the Somme. He said he was very fond of his horse. When his horse was ill he spent the whole night in the trenches with him nursing him back to health. He was sent home with shell shock. He was never able to work again, only from home. He was a very clever book keeper and had lovely handwriting, he was always pleased to see us when we went to visit him. He married my Grandmother Caroline J Walker in 1919 they had three children Joyce (my mum ) Roy and Hazel.
he was very fond of his horse
He is always fondly remembered.

He told me he used to have to clean the big guns as well as driving them, also on Christmas day they used to meet up with the German Soldier's to celebrate Christmas sometimes play football with then, the next day return back to the trenched to continue the war.
He was a very good father always caring.
Remembered with Love His daughter Joyce
