David's Story
David Taylor served in the 33rd Division, 162nd Brigade, D (Howitzer) Battery, Royal Field Artillery, formed in 1915, and fought in France and Flanders.
It was during the first day of the Battle of the Menin Road, Third Ypres,20/09/1917 that he was wounded in an artillery barrage and taken to a field hospital where he sadly died from his wounds two days later on the 22/09/1917.
He is buried in La Clytte cemetery, in Belgium, Plot III B 7.
His record shows at the time of his death he was 167th Brigade but this was disbanded in 1916 and it is believed that this was a clerk at the time mishearing 162nd as 167th.
He appears in the book of the dead at the Scottish National War Memorial. I am immensely proud of his sacrifice and I am endeavouring to find out more about his service especially his date of enlistment, believed to have been in Dunfermline,Fife.
