Frank's Story
Frank Doughty is my grandfather. He had been in India for 17 years with the army prior to the outbreak of World War 1. In 1914 he was with the British Expeditionary Force which went to Belgium. He was in the battle of Mons. In February 1915 he came home to marry my grandmother but went staight back to the front. My grandmother was 6 months pregnant when, on 8th August 1915 Frank was killed while defending the Cloth Hall in Ypres. My father was born in November 1915 and my grandmother never married again. Frank is buried in Voormezeele cemetary in Belgium.
