Arthur Ernest's Story
Arthur E Ball joined up and was sent to France; he went through battles in Flanders through 1916-1917 including Passchendale. It was during the time on the Western front that he was gassed. The regiment was then sent to Italy in the latter part of 1917. It was on the Italian front that he saw the end of WW1.
During WW2 he was an older member of his Home Guard outfit though only in his 40s; working during the day and out most nights on patrol in south London. The onset of winter in November 1942 saw him catch pnuemonia from which he died.
