BBC Radio Scotland gets motivated throughout January with a new season of programmes, A New Year – A New You, to help inspire the audience to reach some of their goals and ambitions for 2010 spurring on those New Year resolutions.

Many of BBC Radio Scotland programmes and presenters are getting involved in this new season of motivation from Music to News, Sports to Leisure, and Features to Arts – plus all the regular shows - to include relationships, work and health and fitness.

Jeff Zycinski, Head of BBC Radio Scotland said: “After the festive indulgences BBC Radio Scotland hopes to energise the audience with this new season of programmes in A New Year – A New You, at the start of 2010. Whether it is to lose weight, learn a new language, start a new hobby or just do something different for the New Year – we hope BBC Radio Scotland can help inspire and motivate the audience to achieve this.”

MacAulay and Co will be pairing up a BBC Radio Scotland presenter with a motivational buddy who will be overseen by life coach, Gillian Brown.

Some of the BBC Radio Scotland presenters taking part are - Gary Robertson who plans to run a half marathon in April; Shereen Nanjiani wants to overcome her fear of mo ths; Euan McIlwraith would like to write The Out of Doors Cookbook and Vic Galloway wants to cut down on his smoking and drinking.

In a new four-part series - Success Against the Odds - Pat Nevin looks at what drives people on when they are faced with difficult and challenging situations and what inspires them to overcome knockbacks which everyone suffers at some time in their lives and to succeed against the odds.

Julia Sutherland helps people achieve a personal goal each week in a new three-part series - Help Yourself – from losing weight, starting a new relationship to getting back to work after having a break to bring up a family.

At the end of every month throughout the year BBC Radio Scotland will keep track of how presenters and volunteers have fared in A New You and give them further tips to keep focussed and motivated.

Online there will be full coverage of BBC Radio Scotland’s A New Year – A New You season on bbc.co.uk/scotland, plus the audience can listen again to all programmes for seven days after broadcast on BBC iPlayer on bbc.co.uk/radioscotland with additional topics and links including a chance to watch a video offering key motivational tips from Life Coach, Gillian Brown.
