
The pier at Meanish. Produce that the crofters of Glendale bought and sold would arrive, or leave, on boats from here. The pier is a reminder that the sea, as well as the land, was a key factor in crofting life. Many crofters worked in the kelp industry, collecting seaweed which was used as a crude industrial alkali. And during the summer, many crofters would seek work in fishing.
