ROBINSON
Martha Lane Fox made her fortune as the cofounder of lastminute.com and she floated the company not long before the dot com bubble burst. Five years ago it looked as though her luck had run out. She was seriously injured in a car crash, she recovered, though she now walks with a stick. Martha is back in business with karaoke bars in London, Cardiff and Manchester, she's also a non-executive director of Marks and Spencer's. So how does someone with such a wide range of interests spend her weekends?

LANE FOX
Some weekends I'll be in London and I may well still be working. Often go down to Lucky Voice, a karaoke joint and see what's going on, watch the customers coming in and out or even have meetings for various other different bits and pieces, often reading background to some of the other companies that I'm working in or just playing around on the web getting ideas and seeing what's going on, as you might imagine. But then the other kind of weekend would be getting out of London, I love travelling and despite my stick still manage to roam around the world, so my boyfriend and I go on short breaks, we're very lucky to have the resources to be able to go whether it's the South of France or to Paris or to Italy, even to New York a couple of times for the weekend, that's fantastic and fun. Otherwise my boyfriend's family have a lovely home in Dorset, near Bridport. I was never very comfortable in the countryside, grew up mainly in London, but he has shown me how beautiful that can be and hanging out on the beach, especially in winter and stomping around as the waves crash about in the pouring rain can actually be great fun.

I had a very serious car crash nearly five years ago and the consequences of that will be with me forever I think. As a result I am absolutely and totally focused on exercise and have physio either with someone else or myself every day and at the weekends I allow myself one day off but generally one of the mornings I'll be doing my very boring but necessary exercise routines and I'll always try and go for a big walk, maybe a swim, so I'm not very good at sitting still at the best of times but now I kind of medically can't sit still quite as easily so I'm spending a lot of time at the weekend just working my body out.

Well as you can imagine having come up with a karaoke business music's really important to not only my working life but also my personal life - there's always music on in the background if Radio 4 isn't on. And my iPod is stuffed full of fantastic tracks. I'm listening to a whole load of old stuff at the moment, I've always been absolutely obsessed with the musicals from MGM in the 1950s so quite often I'll kick off a weekend with a big show tune which always makes my boyfriend laugh. I listen to all kinds of different things - punk tunes seem to work really well at Lucky Voice so there's quite a lot of Clash being played at our house recently which probably is a bit surprising.

And then Sundays we very often go to the opera and I love going to the Royal Opera House, it's one of the great treats of my life so maybe you'd hear some Don Giovanni belting out from our home on a Sunday afternoon.
