Plan announced on how to fund Social Care in England
The Government's unveiled its White Paper on how to pay for older and disabled peoples' care. A National Care Service will be created and care will be paid for using the 'Comprehensive Model' whereby everyone who can afford to pay will pay. That could be either during their lifetime whilst still of working age, at retirement age or after a person's death. The detail will be decided by a new Commission to be set up in a new Parliament.
The Conservatives says the Government is in 'full retreat' and describe the White Paper as inexcusable.
The Lib Dems say it shoves decisions on social care funding into the long grass for 5 years, and they are disappointed that the Government's rejected the 'Partnership Model' in which the costs would be part-state and part-individual funded.
