A recent poll conducted for BBC One’s Panorama of 1,010 adults has found that 73 per cent backed legalisation of assisted suicide for the terminally ill. And now Sir Terry Pratchett – the best selling author who is suffering from early onset Alzheimer’s – has stepped into the debate by calling for the setting up of tribunals which would grant you medical help to die.
As public pressure grows for a change in the law, how close are we seeing to the legalisation of assisted suicide becoming a reality? Is new guidance to be welcomed? And is assisted suicide or not something that people should have a choice about?
