Breast Cancer Treatment Guide12 Jan 2006
A look at what's on offer

Over Christmas, there were reports of a successful trial of Femara, a new breast cancer drug with impressive results in combating the re-occurrence and reducing the spread of breast cancer to other parts of the body. Femara is just the latest in a line of "wonder drugs" in the treatment of breast cancer and while news of its success is welcome, in light of the financial squeeze that the NHS is experiencing, how many women willbenefit from this advance?

Nigel Bundred, Professor of Surgical Oncology at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester who led one of Femara trials is confident that drugs such as Femara will end up saving the NHS money. Professor Karol Sikora, a former head of the World Health Organisation's Cancer programme feels that all these new treatments are in danger of creating an unsustainable burden for the National Health Service.

And with all these new drugs making headlines, how can concerned women and their families find out which are the best treatments for them? Tara Beaumont, Head of Online Services for Breast Cancer Care is on hand to offer advice. Join Jenni and her guests for a guide to the Breast Cancer care maze.
