Increase in cirrhosis death rate

The problem of binge drinking seems rarely out of the news. Later this week a documentary is to be aired on BBC THREE in which a reporter spends a whole month binge-drinking, to look at the effect on her life and her health. Last Friday the Lancet published a report that found that mortality rates from cirrhosis have soared in the UK since 1987, and that cases have gone up by as much as half among women in the same period. Jenni asks why this has happened, and what can be done to reverse the trend.
