Souad Massi is the biggest selling Islamic female artist. She had to flee her home country of Algeria in fear of her life and she now lives in Paris. Her father hated to hear music in their household and so she would have to practice her guitar while he was a work.
As she became more successful she became a target for disapproval in Algeria and would receive anonymous threats over the phone. Since moving to Paris she has become a star on the world music scene and is one of the best known female singers from the Arab world.
Souad joins Jenni in the studio to talk about her struggle to become a musician, her latest album and how she is coping with managing her music career and bringing up her daughter.
