Willow Sculpture30 Dec 2005
Artist Serena de la Hey's latest creation

If you’ve ever driven along the M5 in Somerset you may have been struck by a twelve metre high sculpture of a runner called the Willow Man. The artist is Serena de la Hey who draws her inspiration from the Levels, an historic wetland, where willow trees have been cultivated for basket making for hundreds of years.

Her latest sculpture, a steel frame 13 feet high wound round with willow has just been unveiled in the grounds of Queen’s College, a school in Taunton.

Reporter Fiona Clampin joined Serena on her scaffolding and spoke to the pupils of the school.
