There is nothing quite so romantic as the Rockefeller Centre in New York at this time of year when you can watch the outdoor ice skaters strutting their stuff swathed in seasonal light. And outdoor ice skating has now become a feature of this country’s winter too.
Dozens of outdoor rinks are currently opening, with six in London alone, and record numbers elsewhere from Norwich to Taunton, Sheffield and Manchester. So what's the appeal?
