Adopting older children1 Nov 2005
What are the challenges?

In the past many children were given up for adoption shortly after birth, but increasingly it is older children who are being adopted. It's hard to find parents for these children, they often have a challenging history of care homes and multiple foster parents behind them and even after they are placed it can be a long time before they settle in.

With a new series on Channel 4 highlighting this issue, and with National Adoption Week approaching, we look at the challenges of adopting older children.
