The Chester collection
One of Britain’s biggest and most important collections of herbs is housed in a walled garden at the foot of Hadrian’s Wall in Northumbria. The Chester collection is so significant that the Herb Society of America has made a special pilgrimage to visit it.
Originally it was a kitchen garden attached to an 18th century mansion house, now it holds over 900 species, including nationally important specimens of oregano and marjoram.
