Fanny Eaton was one of the most painted women in England, posing for artists including Rosetti and Millais. She was also black.
Her portraits form part of an exhibition in Manchester looking at how black people were portrayed by painters of the period.
Jane Little is joined by Katherine Dickinson, curator of the exhibition, and by researcher Dr Caroline Bressey to ask how the pictures reflect Victorian attitudes to race and politics.
"Black Victorians" is at Manchester Art Gallery from 1 October to 8 January 2006.
