Photography and children project

Margate may be regarded by some as just another typical English seaside resort, but it has also has a history of providing inspiration for artists as diverse as Turner, TS Elliot and Tracey Emin.

Over the past year renowned American photographer Wendy Ewald has been working with twenty-two children on a project called ‘Towards a Promised Land’. Some come from places affected by war and poverty, while others have dealt with domestic upheaval. She has been photographing and interviewing the children as well as teaching them how to take their own photographs, to enable them to express their different experiences of relocation.

Felicity Finch joined her on the sea-front to see the huge black and white photographic banners she has made of some of the children.
