Isabella - Queen of England08 August 2005
Alison Weir reassesses 'the she-wolf of France'

Isabella of France, Edward II’s queen, is one of the most notorious femme fatales in history.

The poet Thomas Gray described her using Shakespeare’s epithet ‘the she-wolf of France’ whilst Christopher Marlowe called her 'that unnatural queen'. How did Isabella earn such a reputation?

Alison Weir joins Jenni to talk about her biography of Isabella, her marriage to Edward II when she was only 12 years old, her love affair with Roger Mortimer, and the accusation made against her of murder and regicide.
