The art of designing, making and wearing costumes

This month of course Edinburgh plays host to its annual Arts Festival. Meanwhile, Glasgow has also been welcoming delegates to WorldCon, the international science fiction and fantasy convention that also attracts the world's largest gathering of costume enthusiasts.

Costuming is the art of designing, making and wearing authentic costumes, whether inspired by historical periods or TV science fiction and fantasy shows. It has a huge following in many countries. The UK has its very own organisation for costumers, called appropriately, 'Wardrobe'.

Judi Herman joined them at a weekend convention in the Midlands . There she found enthusiasts making and modelling their costumes as well as getting together to share new ideas in workshops led by experts.

As well as the 'Masquerades', competitions take place all day with themes ranging from 'the 70s' to 'fairy tales'
