Celebrating Liverpudlian immigrants
Liverpool's maritime links to the rest of the world meant it was welcoming newcomers long before the great period of migration started in the 19th century. Now a garden has opened in the business quarter to celebrate those Liverpudlians born in other countries, or whose ancestors first made their home in the city within the last 200 years.
The design incorporates 32 of their faces to show the diversity of the community, and has been accompanied by a book called "Connections: Liverpool, Global Gateway". Judy Merry speaks to its author, Arabella McIntyre Brown, and to some of the women featured in the garden.
